Local folks take to web to fight for Marshall Fields name
keepitfields.org :: save Marshall Field's
My great-grandmother had a copy of "Give the Lady What She Wants" signed by Marshall Field on one of the Field anniversaries. She had a credit card with Fields.
My grandmother had a Field's card and would take the North Ave. bus from Elmhurst to North & Narragansett and then downtown to shop at Fields.
My mother has a Field's card. The first credit card I got when I got my first teaching job was from Fields. My daughter wrote her first school paper on Marshall Fields and got a letter from the then Chairman, Phil Miller.
My sister has a Field's card. My great-aunts all were Field's devotees.
I will send my card back if they change the name, though I kind of agree with Dawn Trice that service has gone down over the years.

When [gulp] Macy's State Street fails, or underperforms, I wouldn't be surprised if Federated sold the State Street property to developers who would remodel it into the "Marshall Field Condominiums & Food Court." As rediculous as this may sound, its not unfathomable. When Macy's bought the also famed Bullock's in Los Angeles they sold off the much revered Downtown flagship to an immigrant developer who had no sensitivity to the Bullock legacy and [sadly] converted it into a parking garage!
Federated NEVER promised to preserve the cultural legacy that was Bullock's and hasn't promised to preserve the Marshall Fields building as a department store. Lundgren is MOST concerned with his stockholders. He's Shrewed. So schrewed that even Daley bought into his charms. Look closely at the choice of words Lundgren is using...he's THINKING about bringing Frango mint production back to Chicago. Un huh! I've heard this kind of thing before!
Mark my words...the name change isn't the end of this story!
I think that the only thing that talks in this world is money. The second that the Marshall Field's name disappears, so will my business. Federated Group is joining the homogenized world (re: Walmart-ized world) and is more than happy to deconstruct a regional identity for a buck. Have at it, Federated!! I'm going to spread the word to boycott this store and all of their other stores as well. Corporate America may feel that anything goes as long as you can make a profit but they need to start feeling the sting of the consumer a little too.
