"Continuous partial attention"
When is some attention, no attention at all? When we are monitoring our laptops, handhelds, cellphones, and trying to listen to a speaker, the partial attention is really a failure to commit.
Another mother discusses this in her blog, and I liked what she said because she brings up McLuhan's suggestion that our senses are going to be altered by these devices.
